Well, it will all depend on the size and design of the wooden window, but you can plan to spend quite a bit of time painting these intricate architectural elements.

Let me give you an idea, I had to paint 7 wooden windows, one time and these did not have any architectural details, they were just old wooden windows. The type of windows that were installed during the 1950s and would need to be replaced or repaired in the near future.

It’s hard to believe, but I used to paint the exterior of the house, a small house, for $ 300, and a landlord provided the paint for me. I had to buy the rest of the materials, but I was able to paint the exterior of these little houses, in about a day and a half.

Except for the wooden windows, this was a totally different story and I would not paint the wooden windows every time I painted the house. I often touched the windows, but the amount of time it would normally take me to paint these windows was incredible.

Keep something in mind here, I could paint the whole house in about 12 hours, but it would take me about the same amount of time, just painting the outside of these windows and more than half of them would not open, because they were previously painted closed.

If your wood window has some kind of architectural detail, or split grilles or lites, you can plan to spend quite a bit of time painting each window. If you’ve never painted a wooden window before, plan to spend at least four to six hours, for windows smaller than 3 ‘x 3’ and plan to spend at least eight to 12 hours, or more, for larger wooden windows.
