A Lively Tour of Nashville: Nashville Ghost Walk

Who is buried in the walls of the Capitol building? What is the ghostly secret of the Cathedral of Santa María?

Find out the answers to these and other questions as you follow your lantern guide on an easy 90 1/2 mi walk through downtown Nashville.

Our tour was the first of the season. About eight of us met our friendly and informative guide in front of the Hermitage Hotel, home of the famous “white lady”. We were told that there have been many sightings of the lady on the tour, but we did not find her personally, nor did any of the other ghostly apparitions that we learned about. However, the tour was a great way to see Nashville at night and learn about the history. From Rachel Jackson and a couple of famous ghosts on the Capitol to Chet Atkins on the Ryman, we’ve got them all covered. My favorite was the mysterious and strange story of St. Mary’s.

Personally, I would not bring young children on this tour as it covers a very adult section of the city, Printer’s Alley. (I was fascinated to learn here that when you see a building with a balcony in downtown Nashville, it probably used to be a brothel.) The walk is very easy and there are many stops. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a camera. We haven’t looked at all of our photos yet. I heard that things often appear that were not visible to the naked eye.

The Nashville Ghost tour begins in front of the Hermitage Hotel in downtown Nashville, Wednesday through Monday at 8 p.m.
