It’s all about functionality: the HP iPaq Hx2750

The PDA market is getting more and more impressive in today’s market; HP is no exception with its latest version of the HP iPaq hx2750. Although this is one of the largest PDA devices available, it has numerous applications and technologies, including a fingerprint reader, to make users’ lives easier and more secure. Business users and consumers alike can find everything they need in the new iPaq hx2750.

The standard operating system for this unit is Windows Mobile for Pocket PC (2003 Edition), which provides users with numerous desktop applications (Pocket Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player) at their fingertips. In addition, HP has integrated ProtectTools, Credant, and enhanced VPN and WEP security for a higher level of security on your new PDA. The iPaq hx2750 backbone offers stable performance with its Intel 624MHzXscale processor and 128MB of RAM, along with WiFi, Bluetooth and Serial IR connectivity.

HP made sure there was enough memory in this Pocket PC, with 192 MB of available memory. It doesn’t stop there; however, the CompactFlash and SDIO/MMC slots are easily accessible for additional storage. Many PDAs have a short battery life between charges. However, HP implemented its SpeedStep and Wireless MMX technologies to extend battery life for users. These technologies also increase multimedia performance.

The iPaq hx2750 operating system is Microsoft Windows Mobile for Pocket PC 2003 Edition. With this OS there are many applications already installed and ready to use: Pocket Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player 9.0. Security, in this unit, is high. HP integrated ProtectTools software, enhanced security with VPN and WEP, along with the fingerprint reader using Credant security software, all of which provide maximum security for its users. For quality performance, the iPaq hx2750 runs on an Intel 624MHz Xscale processor and 128MB of RAM and also has WiFi, Bluetooth and Serial IR.

As good as all this sounds, there’s a bit of a setback with the price of the unit, averaging around $549. The sticker price of the iPaq hx2750 makes this PDA more accessible to the business market than typical consumers. . There are a number of PDA options on the market that consumers can fit into their budgets a bit more easily than this.

HP integrated its SpeedStep and Wireless MMX technologies in hopes of increasing battery life, between charges, in the iPaq hx2750. Unfortunately, this does not appear to have happened. The longest stretch of battery life appears to be around 4 1/2 hours. This is only if wireless and all other apps are turned off. Of course, battery life on any Pocket PC isn’t extensive.

PDAs vary in size, but are generally larger than a typical cell phone. The iPaq hx2750 measures 4.7″ x 3″ x 0.6″ and weighs about 5.8 ounces. Plus, that rubberized grip that helps hold and protect the phone adds to the overall size of the phone. In short, this pocket PC isn’t a one of the smallest that exist, and only by its appearance, it seems to be a bit bulky (not so much as to bother).

HP continues to create and introduce great products, and they haven’t stopped with the introduction of the iPaq hx2750. The technologies and features available on this unit are amazing and it is a great buy for those who need a PC that can fit in their pocket. Although it seems like this unit was designed for the business world, consumers can benefit too.
