Derek Jeter reaches 3,000 hits – the first Yankee to reach that goal!

The Sport Report milestone alert:

Yesterday July 9 Derek Jeter (the starting shortstop for the Yankees) reached a career milestone by getting 3000 hits in his career. He is the first Yankee to achieve that goal and is the 28th player in baseball history to achieve it. And there is a long list of Yankees players who have made it to the Hall of Fame who have not achieved this goal. That’s a great goal to achieve as an MLB player and one that’s sure to give you an easy trip to the hall of fame!

In Derek’s first at bat he singled up the middle. In his second at-bat, he hit a solo home run for his career-high 3,000 hits. There’s no better way to break a record like that, especially on your home course. (Yankee Stadium) The fan who caught the ball even immediately returned it to Derek Jeter after the game. Instead of holding on to the ball and selling it. You have to be a really dedicated fan to do that because he probably would have saved it and then sold it.

Derek had an amazing game. Not only for the fact that he broke the milestone, he also had some clutch shots to help his team win and went 5 for 5. (5 shots) It was Derek’s day and nothing was going to stop him. The Yankees ended up winning the game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The Devil Rays are also in the Yankees division, which helped them get a bigger lead in the division/wild card race they are fighting for.

With all the Derek Jeter injury talk going on; people probably doubt that he has health problems after this game.

Some other achievements of Derek Jeter in his career are:

12-time American League All-Star

5th American League Gold Glove Award (shortstop)

USA Today High School Player of the Year

All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award

World Series MVP Award

Derek has many other minor accomplishments as well, but these are the main ones he has in the MLB. Derek is an amazing baseball player and people wonder if he will ever reach the 4000 hit milestone. I think he’s going to have to play 5-8 more seasons and get around 150 hits a season. Even if he hits the 3,500 punch mark, he’s going to be amazing. Very few baseball players have ever done that.
